Thomas M. Stank, MD performs first CyPass micro-stent procedure in Northeast Arkansas
Southern Eye Associates has been performing minimally invasive glaucoma surgery for many years but today we have added a new weapon in our arsenal to control the damages from glaucoma. Glaucoma is a degenerative disease that, if left untreated, will eventually cause irreversible damage to the optic disc, and loss of vision. This progressive optic neuropathy is estimated to affect 3 million people in the US.
Dr. Thomas Stank, the only Board-Certified Glaucoma Specialist in Northeast Arkansas, performed the first CyPass micro-stent procedure in Northeast Arkansas. In the US, the CyPass Micro-Stent is indicated for use only in conjunction with cataract surgery for the reduction of intraocular pressure in adult patients with mild-to-moderate primary open-angle glaucoma. CyPass is the first device to enhance flow through the eyes natural, alternative drainage pathway to reduce eye pressure. Dr. Stank stated “Micro-Invasive glaucoma surgery using CyPass is an important advance as we try to address the ever-growing instance of glaucoma in Northeast Arkansas.”
Southern Eye Associates and the Eye Surgery Center of Arkansas have been the premier vision centers in this region of the country for over 30 years and are dedicated to preserving site and preventing blindness.
