Before Your Procedure
Preparing For Surgery
- DO NOT take blood thinners or aspirin 2 days prior to surgery unless instructed by your physician. Please bring a current list of all medications, including the name, dose, and how often you take them.
- Leave valuables and unnecessary personal items at home.
- Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the surgery center, or we will be happy to arrange transportation to and from the surgery facility if none is available. You will not be able to drive yourself home.
- We recommend having someone stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
The Morning Of Surgery
- DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST OR DRINK LIQUIDS.
- Wait until after surgery to take morning medications, unless they are absolutely necessary. If so, take with a minimal amount of water.
- Do take a bath or shower, and wash your face with soap and water.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and low-heeled shoes. Choose clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled above the elbow.
- DO NOT wear make-up.
- DO NOT plan to drive yourself home.
- If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please notify our office 24 hours prior to your visitor as soon as possible.
Discharge
- You will be discharged once your post-operative instructions have been reviewed. Plan to spend approximately 2-3 hours at the surgery facility, including preparation and recovery time.
- If you receive a sedative, plan to go home and rest for the remainder of the day. Follow your surgeon's instructions for medications, eye care, and activity as you recover.
